When do I check-in my child?

Sunday: 3:00PM-5:00PM. It is important to let us know if your child will be arriving before 3:00pm or later than 5:00pm. Arrangments will need to be made with the Youth Activity Coordinators to insure that he/she will be greeted properly and that they will not miss a meal. The first official activity will be dinner at 5:15pm followed by an orientation for all kids staying on campus.

Children arriving before or after hours can check in at the Grove Mayfield House, 584 Mayfield Avenue, Stanford, CA. Please contact DMA to make arrangements if a child is arriving before or after hours. Call toll free 1-866-656-3342 to make special arrangements.

How do I get there from the airport?

From San Francisco Airport: Take highway 101 Southbound toward San Jose from the airport. Take the University Avenue Exit towards Palo Alto. Follow directions below to your final destination.
From San Jose Airport:
Follow signs to take 101 North. Take 101 North to the University Avenue Exit towards Palo Alto. Follow directions below to your final destination.

How do I get there by shuttle?

Our recommendations for shuttle service from San Francisco or San Jose airports are Kids Kab or Super Shuttle.

If you would like to use Kids Kab service we recommend flying into San Jose International Airport for a lower rate.

DMA has online discount codes for Super Shuttle. Click here to download instructions on how to make your reservation and obtain your discount.

If you would like to use an alternative service, San Francisco Airport lists door to door shuttle companies leaving from and going to the San Francisco Airport. San Jose Airport lists door to door shuttle companies leaving from the San Jose Airport.

If my child is coming and needs to be met at the airport and driven to campus, what are limo companies that provide this service?

Kids Kab provides curbside and gate pickup. Call them at 1-408-342-0100 with flight information to make arrangements. Kids Kab provides a unique service that allows the driver to greet your child at the luggage claim area with a Digital Media Academy camp sign. They will assist with all luggage and transport your child to the DMA youth house on Stanford University. Kids Kab will also greet younger children at the gate, help with all luggage, transport to Stanford University, and sign in your child at the door of the house.

Alternatively, there are many other companies that provide limo service from both San Francisco and San Jose Airports. San Francisco Airport list of limo companies that pick up at the gate or baggage claim area. San Jose Airport list of limo companies picking up at the gate or baggage claim area from the San Jose Airport. Note, there is usually an additional fee for gate/baggage claim pickup. Be sure to inquire when you make a reservation.

If the airline requires an adult to drop off my child for their return flight what do I do?

Kids Kab provides curbside and gate pickup. Call them at 1-408-342-0100 with flight information to make arrangements. Kids Kab will assist with all luggage and escort your child to the gate.

Rollz Royce Limousine is able to drop your child off at the airport and escort them to the check-in desk. The cost is approximately $80 for the ride to the airport and $35 for the check-in service, plus gratuity. To make a reservation, call 1-800-398-7881.

Is there parking when I drop off my child?

There is parking on the street and next to the house to help load and unload your child. There are 'permit parking only' signs posted on all Stanford University streets, but parking will be allowed for the amount of time it will take to settle your child into his/her room.

When do I pick up my child?

Classes officially end by 5pm on Friday afternoon. You may pick up your child at Grove Mayfield after 5pm or come earlier to the Stanford campus to see the project your child has been working on. Please call the office to make arrangements for an early class visit. You will be met by a DMA staff member and redirected to the Digital Media Adventures classroom. Your child will need to be signed out by a pre-authorized adult.

What should I bring from home?

  • Bed linens - sleeping bag or sheets (80 inch extra long) and blankets (Linens may be rented from Stanford for a fee, see below)
  • Towels (Linens may be rented from Stanford for a fee, see below)
  • Pillow
  • Alarm clock
  • Fan (rooms are not air conditioned and can be warm on hot days)
  • Comfortable clothing for daytime or evening activities
  • Jacket/Sweatshirt
  • Robe
  • Tennis Shoes or comfortable walking shoes
  • Shower/Pool Shoes (flip flops, for example)
  • Bathing suit
  • Sunscreen
  • Toiletries (tooth brush, paste, soap, shampoo)
  • Music CD's, Photos, eDocuments, DV Video (if applicable for course),
  • Tennis racket, basketball, recreational equipment (optional)
  • Rollerblades, skate board, bicycle (optional for quick transport across campus) note for bicycle: bring a bike lock.

  • Video games to play on teen house computers (E ratings only)

Are linens provided?

Linens are not provided. Please bring linens or an optional linen service may be purchased upon request from Stanford housing. Linen packs may be purchased once on campus at the Stern Housing Service Center. Cost for linens are $30.00 for 7 days, $40.00 for 8 plus days, and a $30.00 deposit fee (refundable deposit which must be a check written to Stanford University). The deposit can be collected at the end of the week once the child returns the linens on Friday morning. Linen packs include sheets, pillow, blanket and towels. Map to the Stern Service Center The twin beds are 80 inches long and require extra long sheets.

What will be provided in the dorm rooms?

Your child will be provided with a twin bed, desk, & a dresser. The twin beds are 80 inches long and require extra long sheets.

Will my child be able to access the internet from the dorm room?

Rooms do not come with internet access. Your child may request internet access for an additional fee of $30 for one week, $60 for two weeks or $75 for three or more weeks. Your child can make this request once he/she are on campus at the Residential Computing desk on the 2nd floor of Meyer Library. Your child will need to provide your hardware ethernet address and Dorm name and room number. Note: it can take up to 24 hours for internet access to be established in the room. Requests made on Monday may not be active until Tuesday.

Are laundry facilities available?

A washer and dryer are available in the dorm free of charge. Please bring your own detergent, fabric softener and dryer sheets. These items and many others can be purchased on campus at Tresidder Express 429 Lagunita Drive Stanford, CA 94305. (1-650-723-9224)

What are the ADA Acommodations?

Grove Mayfield house is not wheelchair-accessible, however on-campus housing with wheelchair access is available.. If you require wheelchair-accessible accomodations, please call DMA as soon as possible at 866-656-3342.

Are there medical services?

University Health Services can provide medical services for non-life threatening illness or injuries. There are charges for services provided. In the event of an emergency, teens will be taken to the Stanford University Hospital Emergency Room, a world class hospital just 5 minutes away, for immediate treatement. The emergency contact on reconrd with DMA will be notified immediately. A variety of medical services are available for attendees.

Where will meals be served?

All children staying on campus will have a meal plan to a Stanford Dining Hall that provides breakfast, lunch and dinner at Stern or Wilbur youth dining halls (depending on the week). Stern and Wilbur dining halls are "all you can eat." Children will be provided with a Dining Services meal card to use for the duration of their stay. If the meal card is lost during the week it can be replaced for a small fee.

How can my child get better acquainted with the campus before he/she arrive?

Is there dining and shopping nearby?

Stanford is home to the Stanford Shopping Mall, which has many restaurants and stores to enjoy. Palo Alto offers many fine restaurants and shops on University Avenue and California Avenue in Palo Alto. All three of these locations may be reached by taking the free Stanford shuttle, Marguerite. DMA children will only be allowed off campus if they are accompanied by a Youth Activities Coordinator.

What kind of things are there to do on the Stanford campus during my stay?

Stanford has much to offer you during your stay! The Youth Activity Coordinators will plan evening and weekend events for kids staying on campus. For additional information check the Stanford online calendar of events to see events happening during your stay. There is also a free art museum, Cantor Center for the Visual Arts as well as many pieces of outdoor art. You may also go to the observation deck of Hoover Tower to get a panoramic view of the Stanford campus and the surrounding Bay Area. What is your cancellation policy if I need to cancel housing only?

If you have signed up for on-campus housing, our cancellation policy is as follows: if you notify DMA in writing more than 15 days before the day you are to check-in, you will be refunded minus $125. If you cancel housing only within 15 days of your arrival, there is no refund.

Will I be able to purchase software from the bookstore?

Yes! DMA students can purchase software and hardware from the Stanford University Bookstore at the academic discount price.

To purchase via phone:

Call the bookstore at (650) 329-1217 and ask for the computer department. Identify yourself as a DMA student and have a copy of your registration confirmation or statement showing payment in full ready to fax to the bookstore at (650) 322-1936. You will then be eligible to purchase hardware and software.

To purchase in person:

Go to the Stanford Bookstore Computer Department at 519 Lasuen Mall. Bring a copy of your registration confirmation or statement showing payment in full and identify yourself as a DMA student. You will then be eligible to purchase hardware and software.

Driving Directions to Stanford University for Overnight Attendees

Sunday Check-In Location: Grove Mayfield House, 584 Mayfield Avenue, Stanford, CA 94305 (Cross streets Campus Drive & Mayfield Avenue)

Check in time is Sunday 3:00PM-5:00PM (Overnighters Only) It is important to call ahead of time if you will be earlier than 3:00PM or later than 5:00PM. Your child will need to be signed in by a pre-authorized adult.

Friday Check-Out Location: Grove Mayfield House, 584 Mayfield Avenue, Stanford, CA

Check out time is Friday 7:30-8:30am, all luggage must be packed and moved to a storage area before leaving the house for classes . Classes end by 5pm on Friday. Your child will need to be signed out by a pre-authorized adult. Attendees staying over the weekend do not need to check out.

Directions to Stanford University Grove Mayfield House:

From Hwy 101 N or S
Take the University Avenue/Palo Alto exit towards Stanford University. Stay on University Avenue (driving through downtown Palo Alto.) After crossing El Camino, you will enter the Stanford University campus. University Avenue turns into Palm Drive. At Campus Drive, make a Left, and drive approximately 1 mile going through a series of stop signs. On Mayfield Avenue take a left. Grove Mayfield will be the second house on your right, 584 Mayfield Avenue. Look for the DMA Banner outside the house. Check-in for all Digital Media Adventures overnighters is at Grove Mayfield for all weeks.

From Hwy 280
Take the Page Mill Road exit east. Make a Left onto Junipero Serra Blvd. Make a Right onto Stanford Avenue (1st stop light). Turn Left at Bowdoin (first stop sign after 2 lights). Turn Left onto Campus Drive, and continue until you reach Mayfield Avenue. On Mayfield Avenue take a left. Grove Mayfield will be the second house on your right, 584 Mayfield Avenue. Look for the DMA Banner outside the house. Check-in for all Digital Media Adventures overnighters is at Grove Mayfield for all weeks.

Where do I check in if I am arriving after check-in hours listed above?

Go to Meyer Library Room 182. Park you car on Escondido and walk toward Meyer Library. Go through the Meyer Library doors that face Escondido, walk toward the far left corner of the first floor, and turn right down the hallway. Go through one door and you will see our office directly behind the door.

Is there parking when I drop off my child?

The closest available parking lot is off of Escondido Road. After turning off of Campus Drive onto Escondido, the EA coded parking lot will be on your right side. For alternative parking locations view the campus map. Please note that if you plan to stay for any length of time after you check-in your child on Monday morning, you will need to purchase a daily parking pass for $4.50 and walk back to your car to hang the parking pass on your rearview mirror. Expect a 5-10 minute walk to and from your vehicle.

When do I pick up my child?

You can pick up your child at 5:00pm at Haus Mitteleuropa (also known as House Mitt) on Mayfield Avenue. Your child will be available for pickup beginning at 4:45pm. Please be prompt in picking up your child.

Are there medical services?

University Health Services can provide medical services for non-life threatening illness or injuries. There are charges for services provided. In the event of an emergency, Stanford University Hospital is 5 minutes away and is a world class hospital.

Where are the dining locations on campus?

All commuters and overnight Adventures attendees will be eating together in the Stern or Wilbur youth dining halls. If you selected the Commuter No Meal Plan, your child will be eating his/her sack lunch with the other kids in a dining hall. If you selected the Commuter Lunch Only Plan, your child will be eating lunch in one of the dining halls. If you selected the Extended Commuter All Meals Plan, you will need to drop off your child at 7:30AM at 543 LASUEN MALL on the Stanford campus. The address will lead you to our Adventures overnight house where you will be met by the Adventures Counselor. You will need to show your photo ID when dropping off the child and give the name of the person who will be picking up the child at the end of the day. Your child will then go to breakfast, lunch, and dinner during the day with the other children in the program. Stern and Wilbur dining halls are "all you can eat." Children will be provided with a Dining Services meal card to use for the duration of the week. If the meal card is lost during the week it can be replaced for a small fee.

What is your cancellation policy if I need to cancel my course?

Cancellations made more than 15 days prior to the start of a course are eligible for a refund less a $200 per course cancellation fee. No refunds will be issued for cancellations made within 15 days of the start of a course. In order to receive a refund (less $200 for course cancellation) written notice must be received no later than Sunday at 11:59pm, two weeks and one day prior to the start of the week in which the course takes place.

Monday Check-in:
Meyer Library (8:00am-8:45am) - outside facing Escondido Rd. You will be directed to the orientation room and be provided with your welcome materials.

Tuesday to Friday Drop off and Pick-up Location:
Haus Mitteleuropa (also known as House Mitt) on Mayfield Avenue. HAUS MITTELEUROPA is located at 620 MAYFIELD AVE. Click Here to view a map.

From Hwy 101 N or S:
Take the University Avenue exit toward Palo Alto. Drive on University Avenue through downtown Palo Alto. After crossing El Camino, you will enter the Stanford University campus. University Avenue turns into Palm Drive. At Campus Drive, make a Left, and continue until you reach Escondido Road. Make a right onto Escondido.

Continue on Escondido until the road dead ends in a cul-de-sac. Meyer library is a few hundred yards directly beyond the end of road. Meyer is a beige building containing hundreds of small windows. On Monday the DMA check-in table will be in front of the building facing Escondido, look for the DMA banner.

Park in the large parking lot off of Escondido to your right. Walk down to the end of Escondido onto campus. Meyer library is a few hundred yards directly beyond the end of road. Meyer is a beige building containing hundreds of small windows. The DMA check-in table will be in front of the building facing Escondido, look for the DMA banner. You may purchase a parking pass when you check in at the DMA Registration table in front of Meyer.Please note that after you arrive and check-in on Monday morning, you will need to walk back to your car to place the parking pass on your dashboard.
