DMA Camper Testimonials

Will my child have to share a computer with other campers?
Each camper will have a dedicated computer. We encourage collaboration, but a child will always have a computer of his or her very own.

What will my child take home at the end of the week?
Our courses are all project based, and at the end of the week your child will have a completed game, video or website to take home on a DVD.

What kind of computers and software do you use in your courses?

We use state-of-the-art, networked computers (less than 2 years old) and the latest version of whatever software is being utilized in the course.

How do you balance classroom time and other activities during the day?
We strike a balance between in-class learning and out-of-doors fun. We recognize that kids need to move! Breaks for recreation are built in throughout the day. Your child can expect about 6 hours in the classroom, with time split between instruction and project work. Each day there will be two recreation breaks and an hour for lunch.

Do you offer airport pickup?
We will have a shuttle service available for an additional fee that will include meeting your child at the airport and transporting him/her directly to the Adventures location. Details about this service and pricing will be posted on the attendee section of our website in early 2008.

Where do I pick up and drop off my child?
Commuters will drop off and pick up their children at the designated check-in location on the campus. Overnight campers will check-in on Sunday afternoon between 3-5pm at the Adventures dorm complex and will be picked up at the same location at 5pm on Friday.  A map with directions to check-in locations and dorms will be posted on the attendee section of our Website in early 2008.

How does lunch work?
If your child is staying overnight with us, lunch is of course included. If you are dropping your child off each day, you can either pack a lunch or purchase a lunch plan for $50/week. Either way, all campers will eat together, along with the Adventures staff, in the designated student dining hall.

Can I drop off my child early and pick him up late each day?
Yes, your child is invited to participate in our extended-day program for an additional $180. You can drop him/her off at 7:30am with pickup at 7:00pm each day Monday-Thursday. Pickup on Friday is at 5pm. Three meals per day are provided, beginning with Monday breakfast and ending with Friday lunch.

If my child stays on campus, who will his roommate be?
You will have the opportunity at the time of registration to request a roommate. Otherwise, we match our campers by age, gender and course topic.

What does my child need to bring if staying on campus?
A complete list of suggested items to bring will be listed in the attendee section of our website in early 2008. The list will include items such as sheets or sleeping bag, towels, toiletries, alarm clock, fan and a pillow.

Can my child bring his own video games and movies to play?

It’s up to you, but we only allow "E – for Everyone" rated games on Digital Media Adventures computers and only show age-appropriate movies on movie nights.

What do overnight campers do in the evenings and on the weekends?
At DMA our campers will enjoy activities like board games, chess, Capture the Flag, scavenger hunts, soccer, swimming, ultimate Frisbee, volleyball, basketball, nature hikes, Frisbee golf, video gaming tournaments, exploring the beautiful campus and a healthy dose of summer splashing - there’s something for everyone.

Weekends are packed with organized activities like bowling, miniature golf, professional baseball games, Great America amusement park, Lazer Tag®, video arcades and more. You can count on our trained adult staff to provide close supervision and lots of safe fun for your kids.

What risk-management precautions do you take to ensure the safety of my child?
We protect your children like they were ours. That is our pledge to you.

We employ a secure check-in and check-out system for day campers. No one is allowed to pick up your child without proper identification and written authorization on file. All our counselors carry cell phones and can be easily reached at any time. Campers are supervised at all times. We use the “buddy system” to ensure your child’s safety, even during a bathroom break.

In addition to our stringent background checks, we use the common sense, no “one-on-one” rule. Your child will not be left alone in the presence of only one adult. We require all our staff to undergo thorough risk management and emergency procedures training. All our computers are protected with strict Internet content filtering software.

What if my child has a medical emergency?
We won’t hesitate to take your child to a medical center in the event of an emergency.  All our staff are First Aid and CPR Certified, so we are equipped to handle minor injuries ourselves. Be assured that we will treat your children with the same care and concern as we do our very own.  Parents will be notified immediately whenever sickness or injury occurs.

Can I visit my child on campus?
Of course you can! In fact, we encourage you to come on Friday afternoon at 3pm to see all the incredible projects that were made during the week. If you need to visit at other times during the day, Monday-Friday, just check-in at the designated check-in location and we’ll escort you over to the classroom after verifying your identity. If your child is staying overnight and you need to see her/him, you’ll have a few cell phone numbers to call to make those arrangements.
